I have found the amazing awesomeness that is Arrested Development. That is why there has a been a lack of activity on here. Sorry about that. Been glued to the TV.
I just love the show, but I finished Season 1 tonight and I am so disappointed that there are only 3 seasons. And I read today that the talks of an Arrested Development movie is a no go. Boo!
I think my favorite character is Tobias Funke. He’s a non-nude, and he’s funky as ever. Kind of like this bread, it’s a bit wacky. You hear strawberries and sour cream and wonder if it would work together in a quick loaf. Well it absolutely works.
All the grocery stores have strawberries on sale, so I grabbed a few pounds and have been searching the internet for strawberry inspiration. I’ll admit, strawberries are not my favorite fruit (unless dipped in chocolate of course) but I do love strawberry flavor.
I was on Joy of Baking and saw a recipe for Strawberry Bread. The recipe called for either yogurt or sour cream and I wondered what bread would taste like made with sweet, seasonal strawberries and tangy sour cream. I was very pleased with the results and the aroma that filled my apartment was mouth watering.
Strawberry Sour Cream Loaf
Recipe adapted from Joy of Baking
yield: 1 loaf
1/2 cup (1 stick) Butter
3/4 cup Sugar
3 Eggs
2 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 cups AP Flour
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 cup Sour Cream
2 cups Strawberries, quartered
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
1. Using an electric mixer or hand mixer, beat together butter and sugar until fluffy. Next add eggs one at a time and then vanilla, until mixture is creamy and fully combined.
2. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. With the mixer on low, add the flour mixture (in three additions) and the sour cream (in two additions) alternately, starting and ending with the flour. Mix only until combined.
3. Gently fold in the strawberries.
4. Pour the batter into a greased 9×5 loaf pan and place in preheated oven. Bake for one hour, or until slightly browned on top and a toothpick comes out clean.
5. Let cool in loaf pan at least 30 minutes before gently removing. Enjoy as is or with butter, jam, whipped cream cheese or honey!

This bread for great with coffee and you can have it for either breakfast, or dessert. The bread isn’t overly sweet but if you wanted to add more sweetness, you could make a simple glaze with powdered sugar and milk. I love how the strawberries melt into sweet, red pockets within the bread, yet you can still see the texture of the berries on top.
Time to toast a piece of strawberry bread and start season two!
