July5th

The 4th of July means a few things to me. It means my countrie’s independence of course, and y’all, I am so darn proud to be American. I can’t imagine being from or living anywhere else than in the great state of Texas in this great country. Next, the 4th is my dogiversary with Holly. We rescued her two years ago from a bad situation and she is as part of this family as I am. I love that dog. And lastly, this holiday means school is very near. I start in a little over a week.

Since I will be a full time photography student the next 3 years, I figured I needed to attempt to photograph fireworks. I can’t wait to compare these images to the ones I will take after 3 years of school. Hopefully I will be 1029312% better. Though I think I did a pretty good job for my first attempt.

I got there early to set up my tripod (a necessity when shooting fireworks) and to set up the shoot. I used the trees as a frame and also as a scale to the fireworks. If you are a camera nerd then the following applies to you. I used a low ISO setting of 200 in all of these pictures. The shutter speed varies from 2 seconds to 15 seconds per shot. The more fireworks in the shot, the longer the shutter speed was. I used an f-stop of f/8 the entire time. If you have any question, please let me know in the comments section.

Here we go, just getting started with the baby fireworks. Cute, little and sparkly.
Can a firework be cute? I think so.

By the way. Fireworks = traffic. In case you didn’t already know that.

Boom! The grand finale! Hope everyone had a great 4th of July!

Awesome! I feel like I was there… without all the traffic. I can’t wait to see the pics on the 4th of July in 2011, 2012 and 2013!

Great job! Your pictures came out really well! I can’t even imagine how hard it is to photograph fireworks…luckily I have a blog photographer to take care of that stuff for me, while I focus on things like baking those berry pie bars (they look fantastic!).

Check out my Photoman’s fireworks pics. You’ll love them! (I know I do!)
