Natalie's Killer Cuisine

I am alive. I am well. I am more than well!

As you may know, or not know, I haven’t blogged since May of this year. Four months. I remember looking at one of my favorite food blogs once and wondering ‘why haven’t they posted?’ After a week, then two weeks, then a month went by, and before you knew it I was going back for some of my favorite recipes, being greeted with a blog post published a year prior. I always wondered what happened to some of those people, but I never emailed. I bet that has happened to a few people that have stumbled upon my site wondering where I am, and I have received a few emails. To those that emailed me, thank  you, I appreciate you, I am alive, well, and more than well!

I’ve decided to make my come back blog post full pictures from my self portrait series rather than a recipe or food photography. This is a direct reflection of how my photography, and general interests are going right now. I have been thinking quite a bit lately about myself, photography, past master photographers, artists, art history, fashion and so on. Combine all those thoughts with 70 hours a week of school and work, and frankly, food photography and recipe development is the last thing on my mind. I find it so interesting that two years ago when inspiration struck it would be in the form of a recipe or meal idea, and I would frantically write it down so I didn’t forget it. Some of my best recipes were formed that way. But now, that strike of inspiration is coming in the form of fine art photography, and more specifically in the style of self portraits, editorial and fashion.

And there lies the problem. This site is called Natalie’s Killer Cuisine and right now, I just want to talk fashion and photography with you. I want to ask the world why the hell Nicki Minaj is sitting front row this past New York Fashion Week next to Anna Wintour. I want to tell you all about my trip to New York City recently and my experience at the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibit. I want to tell you about the books I’ve  read, such as the ones about Isabella Blow and Christian Dior (and I want to brag about how many times THE Daphne Guinness has tweeted me back!) I also want to show you the work of the greatest photographers that existed in my opinion, such as Man Ray, Richard Avedon, Mario Testino, Nick Knight, and Helmut Newton.

So what do I do? Continue to abandon this blog due the lack of cooking in my life (but trust me, I am still eating great meals) or start to write honestly and freely about everything on my mind? I would love to turn this into a Dallas related- personal thoughts and ideas- fashion and photography blog with a small side dish of cuisine. (Not advertising my services for the record, I hate those blogs). And I would love to have all my posts from the first time I made a food blog entry, to my transition into what I want it to become now, rather than starting an entirely new website. I do think this shift in focus and inspiration is not only my personal interests, but professional as well. I see myself photographing people now. Specifically, fierce women. (No babies or weddings. Puke!)

What do I do foodies? Will you stick it out with me? Will you abandon me?
Should I change my name? Should I get a new site to link to this one?
Any advice from friends, family or bloggers? Is this thing on?
Please comment, email me, or do neither and just look at my pictures!

I think you should keep this blog and maybe tweak the name a little:

Natalie’s Killer Cuisine and other Curiosities
    Nataliie’s Cumulative Curiosities

Well, you get the idea! :-)

Good luck and have a fabulous time exploring!

So glad to see you back on the blog, I was just thinking about you the other day. I am about to transition from food blog to food, lifestyle and style blog. I’m going to do this by setting up different RSS feeds by category. People currently subscribed will get the whole shebang, but have the option to just follow food in case they only care about the recipes.

I would totes read your blog if it was about other things.

WOW, great pictures. You should start a new site so that if you want to come back and post food pics then you have that option.

So glad to see you back!! These photos are lovely and so neat to see your growth and progression to your other areas of interest. I like the Curiosities in the name – that fits you well. Gorgeous model!

I really enjoyed your recipes! Please don’t stop with the food photos.

I subscribed for the recipes, but I found my only previous exposure to your photography – your Painted Ladies post – really exciting. I commented on that one also. The same goes for this post. Your work is excellent and a real pleasure to view. So, I’m certainly still going to follow you. I guess I agree that you might want to tweak the name so it’s more reflective of what you’re actually doing, but please keep doing it. I’ll look forward to more of your work.

How about just “Natalie’s Killer…” and leave it open to interpretation? I will follow you wherever you end up! Your photography is absolutely STUNNING!

AAhhh you’re back :) I was wondering what happened to you:) I love the self portraits! I think you should transition this blog into what you are passionate about. A blog should be flexible to move with your interests. That’s my 2 cents…

I have to echo the other posters when I say I was SO excited to see a new post from you. I’m loving the pictures you are posting and miss the recipes-maybe a hybrid of the two? Either way, I’ll keep reading!

Keep the pics coming! Throw in some food if you want, but I’m all about the pictures! I should take 4-months off from my blog and catch up with my life…. : )

Photographing babies named Noah arent puke-worthy, right?! Can’t wait to move home so I have someone to talk fashion with! Wishing too I could somehow get you all the copies of Italian vogue I have collected over the years!

I literally just stumbled upon your blog and loved several of your recipes. I decided to subscribe and this is, of course, the post that popped up. It’s funny, when I first started reading I thought “of course, i found a great food blog and now she quits. Just my luck.” BUT the more I read of your post the more I wanted to jump up and cheer for you…

I love the idea of blogging honestly, in your moment- wherever that may be. And truly, you are beyond beautiful and your photos are exquisite.

I saw a link to this blog on another site and today is my first time looking it over.

I like the suggestions from Mardi and Kim. Don’t discard this blog. Reinvent it, like you are reinventing yourself. It doesn’t matter that you are no longer into cooking. You were and I think that should be here. There is nothing wrong with showing where you started. Particularly when it was such a good start.

I will be back either way. I liked your photos.

    Good luck!

I came here because the recipes but I don’t see why you can’t turn this into more than that (better than a typical ‘lifestyle’ blog).

And, perhaps, you just might find some food inspiration within other pieces of inspiration. Don’t force the things that to come to you but learn to pay homage to those things to kept you going for the past few years. Also, consider have a ‘guest’ recipe writter in the mix…

Just a readers simple opinion. All the best!
