    CHocolate Peanuts - 150

These past two days have been awesome. Tuesdays are usually my long days with work all day and school all night, but we got a snow day! There was some ice, an inch (if that) of snow, but we Texans can not handle driving on any sort of snow, slush, ice, etc. So we freak out and close up shop. Fine with me ! Work was closed and school was cancelled, and last night was the coldest night DFW has seen in 15 years. So guess what? Everything is closed today too!

Let me ask y’all an important question. Who here is ready for some Eric and Sookie Stackhouse action?

Oh, I am referring to True Blood. I hope you know this. If not, jump on the bandwagon, it’s worth it! True Blood make Sunday’s worth waiting for. In the past I would dread Sunday because that means the work week has quickly crept up again. However during True Blood season I look forward to Sunday evenings. And I start my week off with some hot vampire action! Read More | Comments

    BreadPudding - 150 px square

This past weekend Kyle and I had a small BBQ with a few pals. We made hot dogs and hamburgers and had plenty left over. I sent as much as I could home with friends, but I still had two packs of hot dog buns left. And after the feast we had that day, I knew I didn’t want to eat another hot dog for a while.

A few days had passed and I knew I had to do something with the bread or it would have to be thrown away. The obvious choice when you have stale bread is to make bread pudding, but I wondered if that would work since I was using cheap hot dog buns rather than a nice brioche or French bread. PBCoffeeCake - 150 px square

I love Sundays. It’s the day that I can do whatever the heck I want, whenever I want, dressed in whatever I want. If I stay in my pajamas all day, that’s okay. It’s Sunday. And if Kyle and I watch five episodes of Dexter back to back, that’s okay too. It’s Sunday.

And if we decide to eat Peanut Butter Coffee Cake for breakfast, for an afternoon snack with coffee, and for dessert, well I think that is something you can do on any day of the week, especially on Sunday. Read More | Comments

Garlic Knots - 150 px square

When I was a young teen in Dallas, the options for fun and entertainment were limited. You could go to the mall. You could go to the movies. And you could eat at restaurants. Yes, there were bad things I could have been getting into, but I was, and am, a good girl!

My friends and I would always go to Richardson Square Mall (RIP). My mom would give me a 10$ bill, which could give me a whole afternoon of fun. There was hardly anything there except some cheap stores and restaurants. But even then I knew that mom and pop restaurants were better than the chain restaurants in the food court. It wasn’t a trip to the mall without cheesy bread and garlic knots, from a place I don’t even remember the name. Eventually the mall was demolished, but the memory of greasy, garlicy bread was not. Strawberry Bread - 150px Square

I have found the amazing awesomeness that is Arrested Development. That is why there has a been a lack of activity on here. Sorry about that. Been glued to the TV.

I just love the show, but I finished Season 1 tonight and I am so disappointed that there are only 3 seasons. And I read today that the talks of an Arrested Development movie is a no go. Boo!

I think my favorite character is Tobias Funke. He’s a non-nude, and he’s funky as ever. Kind of like this bread, it’s a bit wacky. You hear strawberries and sour cream and wonder if it would work together in a quick loaf. Well it absolutely works.

There are two things I can’t stand… reality TV and dry scones.

I have never been into reality TV. I don’t think one can find true love in front of a camera competing against 20 other people. I don’t like watching people fight their way out of the jungle, sing, dance, or watch any other talent America may have. And the most horrible reality show of them all…. the worst of the worst… The Hills. Don’t even get me started! (Ok so I do watch The Biggest Loser, but those people aren’t selling their souls to be famous. They are getting the help they need, and that’s inspiring!) Read More | Comments

So a few days ago I told you about the Tomato Jam I made for the jam exchange. Well now let me tell you about the jam I received, and what I immediately made with it.

My package came from Steph in Rochester, I thought right away it was the jam exchange host herself, ::steph chows::, but it was actually from her roommate Steph (I bet that can get confusing!)

She sent me Strawberry Rhubarb, Triple Berry and Apple Butter. WOW! They were all so great and each so different from each other. I used the Triple Berry Jam to create the swirl in my bread. Read More | Comments

    Baguette - 150 px square

There is nothing like the smell of bread baking. Its so comforting.

This is THE easiest recipe for Baguettes (or French Bread, what most Texans call it.) It calls for four ingredients (I never count water as an ingredient, if you don’t have running water you probably shouldn’t be cooking!) and the ingredients are staples that most home bakers should have on hand.

And what does the bread taste like? Deliciousness. That’s what. Read More | Comments

Green Onion - 150 px square

I live in an fourplex building so I have two neighbors upstairs and one beside me. When I cook, they most definitely know. Especially when we slow cook pulled pork, it smells like a BBQ joint when you walk in the building. I used to call one of neighbors Kramer because I would hear him running down the stairs and either the front door flew open, or he flew into the door because it was locked.

I usually bring him a cupcake out of my batch, or a sample of whatever it is I am cooking. Kyle will normally say ‘yeah, this is good’ and continue playing xbox but I know if I go upstairs I will get the reaction I want. Here was this weeks reaction to the Chinese Green Onion Pancakes.
