    Cake 150

Hello everyone who is left! I havent posted in quite a while, as you may have noticed. Sorry ’bout that! Things have been quite busy for me, but anyone who knows me personally knows that I secretly love to be busy. I like to be working towards something. Going in the direction forward, rather than at a stand still. I am now working full time (40-50 hours a week), school for photography full time, homework galore and of course, taking care of my hungry boyfriend Kyle and our dog Holly! And I love every minute of it. I am in an architecture photography class, so I have been taking plenty of pictures of buildings and architectural details. And who wants to look at buildings on a food blog? Read More | Comments

First off, thank you to anyone who voted for me to proceed to the next round of Project Food Blog. If you did not see it, here is my first entry. I am one of 400 advancing to the next round, which is exciting! This contest is honestly a first of its kind, and so freakin’ cool. Though I hate competing against my fellow food bloggers that I have such a bond with, I will be so excited if I (heres hoping) or one of my friends wins. But we have many more challenges to go until we get that far! The second challenge is called The Classics. We were to pick a cuisine that is foreign to us and our blog, and create a classic dish from that cuisine. Read More | Comments

I am now a student and I am now having to decide how to use my time more wisely. When it comes to me though, time and wise don’t go in the same sentence. I am never late though. In fact, some friends of mine would say I am sometimes too early. However when I need to actually use my time to do something, I find a million other things that sound more interesting.

Like just now. I really need to be writing a paper. Like really bad, it’s due tomorrow morning. But how does my professor expect me to type a paper, on a computer, when I can use that computer to check my blog. And how can they expect me to check my blog and see I have a first time commenter and not go look at that person’s blog. Then before you know it, 20 minutes has passed and I am hungry, have bookmarked three new recipes, and the essay still only has my name written on top. Read More | Comments

I have been one busy bee lately. I am getting ready to go back to school and just made my class schedule. I am so excited, and so nervous at the same time. Being back on the campus made me remember all the homework I had, and haven’t had in the past two years since I graduated (unless you count this blog, which is totally home work). But the quicker I graduate, the quicker I can start my career and my life.

If you are out of the loop, then let me quickly fill you in. Went to culinary school. Started cooking professionally. Started catering. Started blogging. Started to like photography. Started to LOVE photography. Changed my focus. Enrolled back in school. And in three years I will have my bachelors in photography (emphasis on food) and will be one happy camper. This dessert is just… wow.

You ever eat something and it’s so good you want everyone around you to try it, so they can say wow with you? This is one of those desserts. A dessert that makes you want to share a moment. Not only do you want to dig into it just by the sight, but it tastes as good as it looks.

But hears the deal, I can’t take credit for this recipe. I am giving away a Betty Crocker prize pack and gift card (which is at the bottom of this post), so I felt I needed to make one of Betty’s best recipes, and this Chocolate Chip Swirl Cake is one of the best! Read More | Comments

I love Sundays. It’s the day that I can do whatever the heck I want, whenever I want, dressed in whatever I want. If I stay in my pajamas all day, that’s okay. It’s Sunday. And if Kyle and I watch five episodes of Dexter back to back, that’s okay too. It’s Sunday.

And if we decide to eat Peanut Butter Coffee Cake for breakfast, for an afternoon snack with coffee, and for dessert, well I think that is something you can do on any day of the week, especially on Sunday. Read More | Comments

Why isn’t Hummingbird Cake more popular than it is? When you think of cake do you instantly think of a rich, chocolate cake. Maybe a light, fluffy white cake. Spicy carrot cake?  Well from now on, I am going to think of Hummingbird Cake.

The cake is filled with aromatic banana and coconut, pecans and bright pineapple. Everything combines well, and each individual flavor shines though the cake.  Top with tangy cream cheese frosting and you have the best cake. ever. Read More | Comments

Upside Down Cake - 150 px square

I come from a family that loves to cook, and loves food.  We have fridges stocked with fresh produce and delicious foods. My mom travels a lot for her work and the next two weeks she will be in Singapore, and then Hong Kong (what a trip!) I went by her house to spend some time with her and let the girl’s play (our two Aussies). This is also when she gives me food she won’t be able to use while she is gone.

She gave me oranges, mangoes, meat, cheese and plenty of crisp, bright red apples. She also gave me a few cookbooks that used to belong to my great grandmother. I was flipping through an old baking book when a recipe fell out for Apple Upside Down Cake. I was intrigued. Read More | Comments

I was born in 1986, which makes me 23. There are a few downsides when it comes to being raised in my generation. For one, I don’t rely on my brain when it comes to spelling, I rely on spellcheck. I am ashamed to say there are certain words I have never learned how to spell correctly, and when I type them I usually just spell them incorrectly, knowing the my internet browser will correct my spelling error for me. (It’s a little late but I have a new resolution…. which is learn how to spell better!) Read More | Comments

I have a big bowl that I normally keep snacks and fruit in. But around Halloween time it is filled with candy instead. Lots and lots of candy. Not that I (or my waist line) need it, we live in an apartment and have no trick or treaters.

Instead I buy it to be festive.
    And to tempt me.
And to bake with, of course. Read More | Comments
