Moroccan Pears - 150 px square

First off, thank you to anyone who voted for me to proceed to the next round of Project Food Blog. If you did not see it, here is my first entry. I am one of 400 advancing to the next round, which is exciting! This contest is honestly a first of its kind, and so freakin’ cool. Though I hate competing against my fellow food bloggers that I have such a bond with, I will be so excited if I (heres hoping) or one of my friends wins. But we have many more challenges to go until we get that far! The second challenge is called The Classics. We were to pick a cuisine that is foreign to us and our blog, and create a classic dish from that cuisine. Read More | Comments

Honey Cheesecake - 150 px square

I am starting to develop some sort of cheesecake pie fetish. First there was the Berry Cheesecake Pie that I made for the 4th of July. I realized I could have cheesecake (that I love so much), without it being two inches high and heavy. I topped that pie with fresh strawberries and blueberries, and it really brightened the dish.It was a light, yet rich and satisfying dessert. Then I made the Candy Bar Cheesecake in a chocolate pie crust. Though this cheesecake pie was not topped with fresh fruit, instead with my favorite chocolate candy. Not so fresh, but damn good and damn sweet! So you could say I sort of have a thing for making a cheesecake in a pie crust, and adding stuff on top. Read More | Comments

    piepots - 150 px square

Bars… and pots! Wait, what? I thought of a great recipe the other night. I was to make Grammy’s Pie Dough and line a baking sheet with the dough, then pour a berry filling on top, and top with more pie dough. And then bake. And I did just that. And they were amaaazing. However I am always a scardey-cat when it comes to bars and fillings. My biggest fear is that I will use too much filling and the bars will not set in the middle, so I usually reserve some filling and set to the side. Well, I had the extra filling just sitting there on the counter, so I decided to add it to a few small ramekins lined with pie dough, and bake those as well. And at the end of the night I realized I created two desserts, from one recipe. bagel cream cheese - 150 px square

You know that strawberry cream cheese spread you can buy at the store? Yeah…. I dislike that stuff. It doesn’t taste like strawberry. In fact, it doesn’t even taste like artificial strawberry. It tastes like strawberry-koolaide-powder spread. It’s sickly sweet.

And when I don’t like something, I make it my own killer way. Read More | Comments

    pie - 150 px square

We are a little less than two weeks away from the 4th of July, one of my favorite holidays. On Memorial Day I went to one of my favorite streets that is lined with historic estates. I wanted to take pictures of the houses and their waving American flags. But I was disappointed to see only four, yes four, out of around 50 or so houses had flags displayed. So hopefully they change their tune and display one on the 4th!

This 4th of July I will be at the lake riding jet skis, and I am pretty sure a BBQ, beer and fireworks will be involved. At any family gathering it is pretty much assumed that I will be providing a dessert (which is awesome of course!) I thought of this recipe as I was thinking about a perfect summer pie, as well as a great 4th of July dessert. I wanted something light with seasonal fruit, but I didn’t want it to be too fruity. However I didn’t want it to be heavy at all. No one wants a rich, dense dessert when it is 100 degrees outside. Read More | Comments

Upside Down Cake - 150 px square

I come from a family that loves to cook, and loves food.  We have fridges stocked with fresh produce and delicious foods. My mom travels a lot for her work and the next two weeks she will be in Singapore, and then Hong Kong (what a trip!) I went by her house to spend some time with her and let the girl’s play (our two Aussies). This is also when she gives me food she won’t be able to use while she is gone.

She gave me oranges, mangoes, meat, cheese and plenty of crisp, bright red apples. She also gave me a few cookbooks that used to belong to my great grandmother. I was flipping through an old baking book when a recipe fell out for Apple Upside Down Cake. I was intrigued. Read More | Comments

    Strawberry Bread - 150px Square

I have found the amazing awesomeness that is Arrested Development. That is why there has a been a lack of activity on here. Sorry about that. Been glued to the TV.

I just love the show, but I finished Season 1 tonight and I am so disappointed that there are only 3 seasons. And I read today that the talks of an Arrested Development movie is a no go. Boo!

I think my favorite character is Tobias Funke. He’s a non-nude, and he’s funky as ever. Kind of like this bread, it’s a bit wacky. You hear strawberries and sour cream and wonder if it would work together in a quick loaf. Well it absolutely works.

    cranberryscones - 150 px square

There are two things I can’t stand… reality TV and dry scones.

I have never been into reality TV. I don’t think one can find true love in front of a camera competing against 20 other people. I don’t like watching people fight their way out of the jungle, sing, dance, or watch any other talent America may have. And the most horrible reality show of them all…. the worst of the worst… The Hills. Don’t even get me started! (Ok so I do watch The Biggest Loser, but those people aren’t selling their souls to be famous. They are getting the help they need, and that’s inspiring!) Read More | Comments

So this recipe has been on reserve for a rainy day.
Or in my case, a rainy week.

I knew there would be a time when I couldn’t take pictures due to the weather. And now is that time. The rain has been going on for 5 days and the sun hasn’t peaked out once. I’ve been armed with my camera ready to take pictures just in case… because I have made some killer things in the past week!

And I am tired of the rain! Seattle bloggers, how do you do it? This has motivated me to get started on making a light box though. Anyone have any tips? Read More | Comments

If I could, I would officially call this summer pie. Why can’t I? Because then you don’t know whats in it! Summer pie could mean a little something different to everyone.

To you, summer pie could mean classic apple pie….
    coconut cream pie….
    banana cream pie?

Now those sound good and all… but this is a Frozen Lemonade (with strawberry sauce) pie! Perfect on a hot summer day! Read More | Comments
