A few weeks ago I attended Tech Munch in Austin, remember when I wrote about it here? We talked about how important it is to know the bloggers in your community. The event was held in Austin where it seemed everyone knew each other. I was jealous. I wanted to know everyone! I only knew Natalie, who was from Dallas like me.

I realized that I had already met almost every Dallas food blogger at various events the past few months (though everyone had not met each other) so it seemed obvious that the answer would be to hold a food blogger potluck!  In my own kitchen! After many emails and tweets the day finally came to have everyone over to do what we do best, eat and talk about food.

This past weekend my Mom and I hopped in her new car and drove down to Austin. It only takes around 3 hours to go there… Her destination? Shopping. Mine? TECHmunch.

What is a TECHmunch? A 6 hour food blogger workshop I attended that brought me up to speed on SEO, how to grow my audience, tactics for building buzz, how to build my brand and also how to make money from my blog. It was very informative and I wish I had recorded every moment so I don’t forget anything, though I took plenty of notes! Jaden from Steamy Kitchen and Babette from Bakespace organized the event. I don’t know how those ladies do everything they do, but they totally rocked it. If a TECHmunch is coming to a town near you, I suggest you go.

It was a cozy, not too large, sized group at the event which made it comfortable to ask questions, and easy to get to meet other bloggers. Not to mention this was a Texas event, and I’ll just go ahead and say that Texans are the nicest people you will meet.

I would like to think I have a variety of cuisine on this blog. My favorite thing to share with you are killer cookies, cakes and desserts. And that seems to be yall’s favorite too. But I also have healthy meals on here. It’s all about balance, yes?

Remember that Tex Mex Quinoa stuffed Bell Pepper I made? Healthy, Vegetarian, and Balanced.

And then I also share the food Kyle eats. Because he doesn’t eat healthy, and he sure doesn’t eat balanced. But that is okay every once in a while. When people ask me what he eats I tell them he eats the B’s. As in bacon and beef.

Remember those Barbacoa Tacos I made for him? They were totally greasy and beefy. Totally Kyle cuisine. Read More | Comments

IN AND OUT - 150 px square

One more San Francisco post and then I am going to be all about the Fall food. I thought I would share with you the fabulous hotel I stayed at, and some of the local food I ate. One thing about San Francisco… it can be overwhelming. There are hundreds of hotels to stay at, thousands of restaurants to eat at, and millions of tourists a year. So where did I stay and what did I eat?

First things first, where I laid my head at night. Read More | Comments

    Foodbuzzfest - 150 px square

I don’t even know where to start! The Foodbuzz Festival was this past weekend in San Francisco and I’m so glad I was able to go. I did mainly Foodbuzz related activities on Friday and Saturday evening, and Kyle and I spent the mornings and Sunday and Monday cramming in as much of the city as we could.

    So let’s dig in?

Friday evening I went to the cocktail reception on top of the Hotel Vitale. There was a great view and great cocktails. As soon as that was over we walked across the street to the Ferry Building for a San Francisco Street Food Fare. This was probably my favorite Foodbuzz activity of the weekend! So much local food to try and so many people to meet. Read More | Comments

Zaza. Just saying it is fun.
Go ahead, say it out loud. Zaza!

If you ever travel to Dallas, you should consider staying at Hotel Zaza. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel super cool just by staying there. It’s located in the bustling Uptown area of Dallas but once you enter the hotel you immediately forget the busy streets outside. It’s hip, modern and breathtaking. Read More | Comments

Kyle and I went to the Farmers Market Sunday afternoon to score some produce deals. (I’m not sure how your farmers market work) but Sunday afternoon is a good time of the day to go in Dallas. The crowd is small so the prices are low. (But boy is it hot!)

There is a Tex-Mex restaurant right by the Farmers Market that has been there since I can remember. I’ve never been, so when a friend suggested we go for lunch Sunday and we were already right there buying veggies, well how could we say no? Read More | Comments

So I had an interesting job last summer. Kyle and I were hosting parties every weekend for an apartment company (they have 29 properties, we were having 5 parties a month at the 4 largest complexes.)

Every weekend would be a different theme and I would make invitations, decorate, create the food and beverage menu (not to mention we purchased and cooked everything) and then take the food to the complex and host the party. There was usually around 15 – 25 people there. We did this every weekend in the Texas heat in my non-air conditioned two door Cavalier. We did around 25 parties. I wish I had my food blog then, I would have so much to show you! Read More | Comments

    kolache - 150 px square

Last stop is the Czech Stop! This is a famous rest stop along I-35 in West, TX. For the past 17 years the Czech Stop has been promoting the Czech spirit with their delicious goodies, sandwiches, but most importantly, kolaches.

To me a kolache is sausage stuffed in some dough then microwaved at the donut shop. Not here. They have over 2 dozen kinds of kolaches. Read More | Comments

Monday morning Kyle and I went to McKinney Falls State Park, which is in South Austin.

It had some beautiful hiking trails and some small water falls which Holly had fun playing in! Read More | Comments
